Engine Maintenance Drives UK MRO Demand Over Next Decade
Commercial MRO demand for the UK is projected to surpass $33.8 billion, with nearly 5,800 service events through 2033.
The 2024 Aviation Week Network Commercial Aviation Fleet & MRO Forecast projects how the world’s aircraft fleet and aftermarket will evolve over the next 10 years. The active UK commercial aircraft fleet is expected to decrease to roughly 820 in 2033 from just over 840 active aircraft in 2024, a 2% decrease in fleet strength over the period. However, this does not translate to a decrease in MRO demand, which is expected to rise at a compound annual growth rate of 0.7% during the same period in the UK.
The forecast projects that engine maintenance will account for the majority of commercial MRO demand at 38%. It also expects the market will be heavily split between Airbus and Boeing aircraft, with Airbus capturing 55% of the UK market and Boeing capturing 42%. ATR, Embraer and Viking will combine to capture the remaining 3%.
