50 Engine Bays
HAESL’s facility is set up with 50 engine bays that allow maintainers to disassemble and rebuild the repaired engine in the same bay.

Red Cloth Service
Red cloth sleeves protect Trent XWB fan blades in the shop.

Overhead Transport
Overhhead cranes transport engines to a bay.

Rigging A Trent
Maintainers are rigging this Rolls-Royce Trent 700 so it’s ready to be tested.

Visual ID
Throughout HAESL, visual signs identify engine MRO—from electronic ones at each bay showing the work status to labels on the floor and on equipment.

Bigger Area For Big Engine
Phase 6 is the newest area of HAESL. This is where the larger Trent XWB is serviced.

In-House Repairs
Component repair occurs in Phase 5 of the building. After an engine is stripped, piece parts come here to be washed, inspected and repaired.

Automatic Cleaning
This Galvatek machine automatically cleans parts, which saves time. HAESL is expanding its capacity for this work.

Honeycomb Repairs
HAESL is a center of excellence for honeycomb removal and replacement.

Blade-Tip Grinding

Continuous Improvement
HAESL employs Lean, Six Sigma and other continuous improvement tools. It achieved a record 300 outputted in 2023 and strives to get to 360 engines in 2025.

High-Pressure System
The high-pressure system of a Rolls-Royce XWB shown here. The HP system is the hottest area of the engine and is one of eight powerplant modules. The white parts are nozzle guide vanes.

Balance Work
HAESL has several balancing machines, which basically balances any engine part that spins in order to reduce vibration.

Engine Test Cell
HAESL has one engine test cell. An XWB, weighing 846 kg (1,865 lbs.), was in for tests during our visit.

We toured Hong Kong Aero Services Ltd. (HAESL), a joint venture between the HAECO Group and Rolls-Royce, on April 25 as part of Aviation Week Network’s Aero-Engines Asia-Pacific. Here’s a look at HAESL, which provides MRO services for Trent engines as well as the RB211 at its facility in Hong Kong.
