Japan Airlines (JAL) took delivery of its first A350-1000 from Airbus’ delivery center in Toulouse, France in December 2023. The A350-1000 is set to become the airline’s new international aircraft, initially flying on the Tokyo Haneda-New York JFK route.

Designed and supplied by Safran Seats, the first-class suites feature three seating modes: sofa, seat and single bed and double bed.

The suite can also be set up into a meeting lounge that seats three.

JAL’s first class features a double bed that spans 4 ft. x 6.6 ft and a 4K-resolution 43-in. screen.

The business-class seat can be extended into a 78-in.-long bed when fully reclined. The seat features cordless handphone chargers as well as Bluetooth connectivity for passengers to connect their preferred headsets.

JAL claims that it has the world’s first headphone-free stereo with built-in headrest speakers developed by Safran Seats and Devialet, allowing first- and business-class customers to enjoy the inflight entertainment (IFE) system without using headphones.

There will be six more business-class seats on the A350-1000 compared to JAL’s 777-300ER.  After receiving customer feedback, the configuration features doors on its business-class seats for the first time.

Now with retractable partitions and 16-in 4K resolution screens, JAL touts it as the first premium-economy seat with electrically operated recline function.

JAL has reduced the size of its premium-economy cabin from 40 seats to 24, laid out in 2-4-2 configuration.

In December 2023, Japan Airlines (JAL) took delivery of its first of 13 Airbus A350-1000s, which is set to become the Japanese flag carrier’s new international aircraft. The Airspace cabin is configured in four classes—six first-class suites, 54 business-class suites, plus 24 premium economy and 155 economy seats.

JAL’s A350-1000 cabin has been designed to make passengers immerse in the elegance of Japanese aesthetics and tranquility. JAL will launch the new cabin product on the Tokyo Haneda-New York JFK route from Jan. 24 and Tokyo Haneda–Dallas/Fort Worth route after receiving the third aircraft.

ATW correspondent Chen Chuanren previewed the new aircraft interior and has provided exclusive photos.
