As the C-130 approaches the 70th anniversary of its first flight, the current production model among more than 40 versions produced since the airlifter entered service in 1956 is the J. Developed initially to meet a requirement from the UK's Royal Air Force, the J's different engines, redesigned propellers and digital avionics help offer significant performance improvements over earlier models. Numerous variants of Js have been delivered to carry out a wide range of specialist missions.
