Another chapter in the remarkable history of the Lockheed C-130 Hercules will begin August 23. The first flight of the YC-130 prototype took place on that date in 1954, meaning the airlifter, designed to meet a requirement developed during the Korean War, will have been flying for 70 years. In June, Lockheed delivered the 2,700th Herc - a KC-130J tanker - to the U.S. Marine Corps. This gallery collates images from a few recent - and a couple more distant - of the platform's notable milestones.
